Historic Building Restored: Old Glory Flies Again!

Post by dolinick »

About a year ago we found out that they were going to restore a building here in San Antonio, TX. They were going to restore the flagpole which it originally had when built back in the thirties. At some point the flagpole was replaced by a radio/television antenna. Anyway, it has been finished for a while now and today(Nov 11th, 2010) they raised the new flag permanently for the first time. I got my new(used) camera this week and have been anxious to try it out so I went and took a few photographs this evening. I hope you like them: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dolinick/s ... 5823/show/

Those are great pics! I have to go downtown more often. A couple of times a year for the parade are the only times I seem
to go now.

I saw that building on "world's toughest fixes" on national geographic channel. They where showing the removal of the old antenna. It looks really nice now that it is finished.

That is the Tower Life Building in downtown SA. Built in 1929, it was originally called the Smith-Young Tower and then the Transit Tower. The flagpole was removed in 1949 to install the TV antenna for KEYL-TV, now KENS Channel 5. The first couple of floors in the building were also the original home of Sears, Roebuck & Company in San Antonio.
