*To Those of You Born*
*1930 - 1979*

At the end of this email is a quote of the month by Jay Leno. If you don't read anything else, please read what he said.

Very well stated, Mr. Leno.

*TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE **1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!! *

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-base paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had baseball caps not helmets on our heads.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes

Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon. We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar. And, we weren't overweight. WHY?

Because we were always outside playing...that's why!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride them down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's and X-boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms. WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment.

Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all. If YOU are one of them? CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives /for our own good/.

While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave and lucky their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it ?/

The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:
'With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'
Living life full throttle on the North Coast of America!!!

born in '73 i used to ride up there in my parent's '69 chevelle on the way home from grandma's and if i pretended to be asleep when we got home they would carry me in the house. we rode in the back of my dad's '71 f100 but weren't allowed to sit on the wheel wells. we usually sat on the spare tire lying in the back by the cab. sometimes i went to the grocery store without any shoes on and was happy if i got a hot wheels car or a box of cracker jack. :)

I read this the other day on the boss's email he showed us. It is very true indeed. Even though I'm younger than the age span, I still know it is true.

I was born in 91 but I rember doing most of thosae things. I hate some of the things this worlds coming too like last week we got 3 days out of school so me and my buddies piled in the lifted Heep(what I call my buddies Jeep since I'm a Ford man  ) but anyways we decided to go sleding and we made it down the hill once the the security gaurd comes by and tells us no sleding becuase if we get hurt they could get sued, and we had the best plan to start on a big pile of ice/snow from the plowing off their parking lot then sled down that jump off this ledge on the flower bed and continue flying down the rest of the hill :D but we didn't even get a chance. So instead we end up sleding on this dangerous big fast hill on the side of a busy street next to the highway.

We can't even sled anymore without people worring about lawsuits and my parents wonder why I love going to Forsyth down there no one cares what you do gas stations will let you buy chew and you can still ride in the back of a truck :D

What ever happened to the city blocking off the big hill in town so people could sled down it during a big snow/ice storm???

They did that all the time when I was younger. 5th street hill in McAlester. You could get some insane speed going down it if you had a good sled. My buddy down the srteet had a red plastic one called "The rocket". It looked like a joke, but it would smoke any sled in town....

Well young fellas, I was born in 1940 and raised in a mill village that was safe as good be, played in the streets under the street lights, went bare footed in summer (no shoes to wear) and at supper time the whole family was around the table. We were poor and did not know it But happy. Not bragging, just did not know any better! :2cents:

Back home is still that way. Driving into my Dad and Mom's driveway is like pulling up to 1970...doors are never locked, no cable tv, no internet, no cell phones. There are all kinds of "projects" laying around the barn from my nephews. All the grandsons and granddaughters have a BB Gun in the closet for when they come over. Meals are made for a family of 20, but only 7 or 8 are present...food is never an issue. Mama still cans her vegetables that are grown in the garden...in fact she hasn't bought store bought vegetables but maybe 5 times in the past two years. (When we went home for Christmas, I had to bring a box of canned stuff home with us...no options- green beans, squash, tomatoes, jalepenos, sweet pickles, tomota/onion/green pepper mix, black eyed peas).

I love pulling into their driveway. The air seems cleaner, the sun brighter, the grass greener. No worries, no strife...peaceful.

Okay, my sappiness is over...get back to work.

I was born in '70. we were poor field workers in a small town,{ McAdoo, Texas. ]but we did not know it. I remember riden in the back of the truck to go to work every summer. My sister and I stayed in the truck parked at the edge of the field all day. We played in the dirt with bugs, snakes, rabbits and what ever else we could find. We were happy heathy and at about 10 years old we were put to work for the good of the family. I remember that all that hard work made me decide that I was going to get an education so that my children and I did not have to work in the fields all day. Now with them not wanting to go outside, and being over weight, and it seems they only want "more money dad", I now sometimes wish I could send them to go work half the summer just so they will understand were money comes from... :fr:
