Clutch pedal return spring -- Help to install...

Post by bourbondrnker »

I was driving down the road and it sounded like a gun went off... The clutch pedal return spring broke!!
I have a NOS part but need help installing it.

Is there a tool that can pull this spring apart? It's a large spring and I have no idea on how to get it installed.
Anyone with information would be appreciated. :? :?

Thanks in advance for your help.

i am going to guess. because i dont know for sure. and i dont have one in front of me too look at and try this. but i would try removign the bumper from the bracket. that the clutch pedal stops against. and see if you can pull the pedal up towards the seat and then put the spring on. if it doesnt work. you may have to use small pry bars or scrwedrivers to install it.

:yt:, Or you may be able to use a pair of brake-spring pliers to do the job. I bet that scared the mess out of you when you heard it!

Remove the brake/clutch pedal support.

The clutch pedal will swing far enough down that the spring can be installed.

I know this sounds backwards, but I just did a C6 to T19 swap, so I have recent personal experience with it. The bracket on the clutch pedal pivots back toward the bracket on the support so that the two points get closer together.

Be sure to replace the nylon "cushions" while you're at it. You can get them from Dennis Carpenter. It's also a good time to replace the rubber bumper.

On my clutch the rubber bumper is below the pedal. However I did remove the rubber bumper and still couldn't get the spring on. I can't get a bid enough pry bar into the area due to limited space. I don't know what to do.
I appreciate all the suggestions.

If you just go ahead and "bite the bullet" and pull the pedal support, you'll save yourself a LOT of time, trouble and worry...
