COOL. You'll love it.
Just be prepared for your pedal travel to be greater with PB. It took a while for me to get used to that since the manual brakes would start to work with very little pedal travel. Your pedal will move quite a bit more with PB, but they will work great.

Re: Power drum brakes ??
Well, got everything bolted on the truck today. Everything went on "ok" I guess. I really needed an extra set of hands, but everyone was busy

I am having trouble with the new setup tho. I cant get any fluid out of the rear reservoir. I cracked both lines at the M/C to bleed them, the front squirts brake fluid like crazy & the rear does nothing. Any ideas? Could the pedal rod need adjusted? It also has absolutely no pedal. Barely enough to hold the brake pedal up.

i am guessing you are bench bleeding in the truck and that works fine. you will just have to keep after it. if it doesnt fix itself you may have to return it to the store for an exchange.

Re: Power drum brakes ??
To bench bleed the MC, you need to install a plastic fitting into the brake line ports then run rubber hose into the MC and keep the ends below the fluid level. Pump the brake pedal slowly until all air bubbles are gone, then reconnect the brake lines. Unless ALL the air is evacuated from the MC, it will never pump fluid
The fact that you are getting pressure from the front of the MC (for the rear brakes) tells me that the MC is good.
Patience is the key!!

Re: Power drum brakes ??
Ok. Finally got everything finished. What a chore. I looked all over town for a bench bleeder kit & the last auto store I checked had one on the shelf. Everyone else said they would have to order one.
The brakes work good, maybe a little too good. They are very sensitive. Not what I was use to with the manual brakes. I have good pedal, but the range of travel is MUCH greater than before.
Does this sound right?

this brakes are more powerful than the drum brakes....
not exactly. our trucks had power brakes optional on these trucks and some models came standard from the factory with power brakes. the real truth is that disc brakes were used on Light trucks(F100) until 1973. cars had discs before that time

Youll have more pedle travel with power than manaul brakes, and im think that the being sensitive is just being use to haveing manual brakes and just haveing to ajust to not haveing to push as hard on the pedle. Just wear your seatbelt till you get use to them so you dont dent your skull when you slam on the brakes. J/Kpapabug71 wrote:Ok. Finally got everything finished. What a chore. Re: Power drum brakes ??
That's not even CLOSE to correct.truckboy wrote:Air brakes feel more like a button. on or off. hard to get used to.

On air brakes, the foot valve controls the amount of air sent to the brake chambers at the wheels.
The harder you push the pedal, the more air is supplied to the brakes. The more air that is supplied to the brake chambers, the harder the shoes contact the drum. The harder the shoes contact the drum, the more braking force is applied.
It's a variable thing, and there is no on/off feeling to them.
