Vacuum source for brake booster

Post by dcbullet »

I've installed a brake booster on my all drum truck. I just don't think I'm getting the improvement I should and I am wondering if I don't have enough vacuum.

The "tree" that comes out of the rear passanger side of the intake manifold has 2 sizes of ports - 4 small and 1 medium. There isn't a port as large as the hose that comes off of the brake booster. Currently, the tree has the auto trans hose attached to the medium sized port, and then two other small ports are going to the distributor.

I had to use an adaptor to step down the size of the hose from the large hose coming off of the brake booster to the small port on the tree. The hose is getting vacuum, because I can stick my thumb on the end of the hose and feel it, but maybe it's not enough.

So my question is, for those of you with power brakes and an FE and the Autolite 2100, where do you hook up the hose from the brake booster? I was thinking there might be a different tree that came with the trucks with power brakes that has a large port.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you, I already read that and and it doesn't really help. Unless I am missing it, the Autolite 2100 doesn't seem to have a vacuum port. That leaves me with just the intake manifold tree for all my vacuum hose needs. My tree does not have a large enough port for the hose that attaches to the booster. Therefore, I'm having to step down the hose to a very small port.

I'm wondering for those with the power booster if they have a tree with a large port that matches up to the booster hose? If such a thing exists, I'll try to get it.

Yes, vehicles with power brakes use a different vacuum tree with a big port that's the right size for the power brake vacuum hose (3/8" I believe).

"Yeah 220, 221, whatever it takes."
