trunion bearings

Post by tanusfarms »

ok i am being told i need to replace my trunion bearings. When i search the auto parts stores websites they don't seem to come up with that bearing. So Is it sometimes called something else? Maybe Spindle bearings or steering knuckle bearing? I would like to get started on replaceing these todays just need to make sure i'm geting the right ones. besides the bearings is there anything else i will need to replace while i am in the (seals, other bearings, misc parts?) :hmm: thanks again guys

Take it apart first. Don't just throw parts at it. If you buy the parts and the trunnion caps are toast from being shot for 20 years you aren't going to fix a thing.

1) correctly, positively diagnose the problem

2) fix it

I buy axle parts from spicer or a dealer like six states or west coast differential. Most parts houses don't have much clue about stuff like this. The trunnions are bearings you may be able to get at your local bearing house.

FYI..... I was able to find the bearings at all of the major auto parts stores eiter in stock or next day. Each place calls these bearings something different. All of them pull up the same timken part number (11590) so if anyone is ever curious, some places call them trunnion bearings, king pin bearing, or stearing arm bearings. a few of the places i called could only get them as part of a complete kit to do both sides with all seals needed.

and dustin..... I'm not stupid.......just poor......i can't afford the kit for another 2 weeks trying to buget the paychecks so i know what to save thought i would start checking ball parks to see if it was trunions if it was going to be $10 or $300. turns out no matter what way i go i'm sitting right about $125.
