brakes performance improvement
hi everybody, my question this time is about brakes performance improvement for my 69 F100 4x2; as you know this unit came with four drums and no booster and seems that something is needed here since the brake effort in the pedal is too high and the overall sensation is a lack of security in the braking. Thanks for your comments ¡¡¡¡

You can add a brake booster. You will need a booster and booster brackets.
Do a search on brake booster and you will find many threads of people doing this upgrade
Disc brakes

Re: brakes performance improvement
Two upgrades for the brakes are power brakes and disc brakes. the power brakes is a simple brake booster addition to the brake system. you only need to add a brake booster to the current brake system to get power brakes. you just need the proper parts to add a booster.
disc brakes for the front are also a pretty easy thing to do. and locating parts is a slight problem but is a good thing to add to your truck.
to add a brake booster. you need a brake booster the brake booster brackets. the one way valve for the brake booster and piece of hose to hook up the vacuum for the booster. and a firewall seal. Brake boosters that will easily swap to your 69 can come from any 68-77 Fseries truck. i say that so that you can get all of the above parts when getting a booster.
front disc brakes can be gotten from any 73-79 truck or bronco that has disc brakes on it. there are specifics as to fitting the parts onto your 69 2wd. such as king pin diameters and master cylinder swaps. here is a link to the page with some the information about making a swap. http://www.fordification.com/tech/discbrakes01.htm the basic parts you will need will be the porportioning valve the disc brake master cylinder the disc brakes themselves. not forgetting the disc brake hose brackets.

Re: brakes performance improvement
Fordelio - I did this upgrade earlier this year to my F-250 drums all around. I added the brake booster with matching master cylinder. Fordman is right on with the need to get the booster brackets that mount the booster to the firewall. Mine had the adjustable pushrod so I didn't even have to make any change to the brake pedal.
I simply added the correct fitting to the intake for a vacuum source and connected it to the booster. The brake lines easily stretched far enough to connect to the extended distance back to the master cylinder.
The difference is astounding. My PERSONAL opinion is that this upgrade was easier and at least of comparable value than the expense associated with adding disc brakes.
