NOS Rag Joint

Any sources? I saw some on here a while back but those have dried up. If not NOS, who makes the best ones for replacement?

dennis carpenter has many original toolings. i would check him first. other vendors also carry dc parts.

I agree with flyboy, that is one item you want/need to spend good money on.

The only parts store in town that even has any is the NAPA & they look like they're 20 years old.

i've seen a few bad ones in the time i have parted out these trucks. i have seen very few bad rag joints. the orignals ones are good ones. and lasted quite some time. the help isle ones are junk. i ripped a brand new one while installing it.

there are some differences int he rag joints for these trucks. it has to do with the size of the flange on the bottom of the steering wheel. some flanges early one si think had two different sizes of cut out on them for the lugs of the rag joint to fit up through. while the later ones had the same size cut out in the flange. plus the later ones had a metal strap across the rag joint for the horn to ground properly.

ok i think the early ones will fit the late ones. but you have to add a ground strap to it for the horn to work. however the late ones wont fit the early model trucks.

The one from NPD that I got has a strap running from one side to the other.

It turns out that my new rag joint doesn't have that strap. Also, the reason my granddad had to rig up an auxilliary horn button was because the ground broke on his original rag joint and he didn't realize it. I didn't realize it either until the column was rebuilt, the new TSS and rag joint were installed. Hmmm...horn still doesn't work. A-ha!

Had to fab a ground strap. Oh well.

yes a wire from one side othe rag joint to the other is all that you need to provide a ground for the horn.
