What size are my F350 lug nuts?
I just bought a '72 F-350 dually with 8 lug wheels. I want to check the air in my inside duals but am having trouble removing the outside duals. What size socket do I need to remove the lug nuts? The biggest size I have is 15/16 and it's too small. Or should I buy a big 4 way lug wrench or is there another way? Thanks in advance....

I'm not sure what size those are but you shouldn't have to remove those outside wheels just to check the air pressure on the inside tires. You could buy a socket to fit but a lug wrench would be the better way in my opinion.

Re: What size are my F350 lug nuts?
The valve stem is between the two tires and there's only about an inch of space so there's no way I can get my hand and arm in there so how am I supposed to check the air pressure? Also, how do I remove the chrome wheel covers? They won't pry off with a tire iron like on a car....

Lebowski,
A 4-way lug wrench is my best friend on my DRW.
And unless they have been changed...watch out for one of the set of wheels having left hand threads on your truck!
Bout' got a hernia trying to get my lugs off the left hand threaded wheel one day!
I put these on my truck and love them:

First I gotta say nice truck! I like the rims.Or should I buy a big 4 way lug wrench or is there another way?

Re: What size are my F350 lug nuts?
Thanks for the kind words and also for the tip on the left hand thread and the extenders. Do all the wheels have left hand thread? If not which ones do? Also, if you want to see some before and after pics of my truck (which I just bought on March 13th) go to the Welcome Mat forum and look for the "New Guy from Kentucky" thread and scroll down towards the bottom. I'd still like to know what size socket will work on the lug nuts. Any idea?

It's just the one rear set of wheels, (and I can't remember if it was D.S. or P.S.).Do all the wheels have left hand thread? If not which ones do?

I think CEP62 is right on the 1 & 1/16" socket size too.

Re: What size are my F350 lug nuts?
First off nice truck. Second the driver side rear is the left handed thread. Also the socket size should be a 1 1/8. Could be 1 1/16 but pretty sure it is 1 1/8. Here is some other information. The centers of those hub caps should come off with a screw driver ( take the screws out)and then the rest are held on with the lug nuts. ( as a side note there are a few different styles of these covers but they look like what is on my fathers truck and that is how they come off. I dont think the front driver side is left handed thread but could be wrong. Also go to amazon and check out there selection ov valve stem extentions. There are a few different manfactures and brands of them that work well. I have a set of these on my inner tires on the rear and a 45 or 90 degree set on the outers. same brand and have been happy with them and it beats taking the wheel off to put air in them. Best of luck and be sure to post up some more pictures. We dont get many ton trucks.

Re: What size are my F350 lug nuts?
Thanks for the tips. I just ordered the Camco extenders because my wife has an account with Amazon and it's real easy to order from them. My neighbor is bringing me several big sockets today, from 1 1/16 to 1 1/4 so we'll see which one fits. My "Built Ford Tough" mud flaps should arrive today so the truck will be looking good on Sunday when a bunch of my in-laws are coming over for Easter. Thanks again for the help....

Re: What size are my F350 lug nuts?
The valve stem on the inside tire is suppossed to line up with the hole in the outside rim and you need a straight air chuck to reach the valve stem. If there are caps on the valve stems, those are a pain to remove. I know you can't get your hand in between the tires. Unless the wheels have been intalled wrong and the stem doesn't line up with the hole in the rim. Some wheel can be installed wrong and some can't. I grew up around a 74 1 ton and we never removed the outside wheel to inflate the inside. I'm not trying to insult you, I just think there has to be a way to get air in the tire without all that hassle.Lebowski wrote:The valve stem is between the two tires and there's only about an inch of space so there's no way I can get my hand and arm in there so how am I supposed to check the air pressure?

Re: What size are my F350 lug nuts?
My neighbor brought over a 1 1/8 socket and it was a little too big so I guess it's 1 1/16. I'm going to take a spin over to Walmart in my '50 Studebaker in a few minutes and see if they have that size socket or a big lug wrench that will work.
Also, the tires say they'll take 80 psi max. The front tires had 50 pounds and appear to be fully inflated. I added 10 pounds so they're at 60 now so what's the correct air pressure-50, 60, or 80? What do you guys recommend?

It is 1-1/16". The left rear should have left hand threads.

How about the air pressure? Is 60 pounds OK or should I increase it to the max of 80?

Re: What size are my F350 lug nuts?
You could probably get away with running at 6o psi or so empty and maybe get a smoother ride, but be sure to inflate to the max if you plan on carrying any major weight. I keep all my truck's tires at the max all the time.

Steve's right on the pressure. Mine are also 10 ply tires rated at 80, (I usually run them around 60). Then re-inflate them when I haul a load.
