About 3 years ago I was hit in the left side by a read light runner. She hit my left door, fender and wheel. It bent my I beam enough to see it easily with the naked eye. I fixed everything as good as I could. I still had some paint left over from when I painted it. I didn't take any chances and replaced the power steering box with a rebuilt one from a truck shop near me.
Problem is when I turn left I don't feel like it makes as sharp a turn as when I turn right? I counted the turns a while back and know it does not turn as many left as right. Don't remember the numbers.
Is there any reason for this? I have gotten used to it but would like to fix it if I can find out why

I just looked at it again thinking maybe the eye beams were different. They look the same but the left side STOP IS sticking out about 1/16 to 3/32" You think this is enough to cause a marked difference in the turning radius?

Re: 71 F100 steering
It sounds like the pitman arm is installed improperly which maxes out the sector gear inside. Try removing the pitman arm and counting the turns of the shaft left to right. Cut the number in half and there is the center of steering. Now with the wheels pointed straight, reinstall the pitman arm. If I am thinking correctly, the factory sector shaft and pitman arm have three big splines to prevent this but if the diference is severe enough I guess you have two chances of putting it in the wrong position.

Re: 71 F100 steering
I'll have to look at it. I was thinking there was a flat spot on the shaft to keep the pitman arm from going on in the wrong place. It is not much of a difference, probably a half a turn of the steering wheel or less but it is noticeable.
I'll look at it. Thanks for the help

the pitman arm on a saginaw box can go on foru directions. all four are a 1/4 turn off from each other.
