Tires?

Post by henryford »

I have a 72 highboy with a 390 4 speed 4X4 and i was wondering whats the biggest size tire i should put on that would look good but still wont effect steering and gas? I was kind of thinking 33's but i didnt want to go buying them and realize there was an all around better size.

henryford, we need more info than that to be able to give you some advise. What gears are you running?

That doesn't sound correct from my experience so I plugged those numbers into a rpm calculator and acording to that your rpm would be more like 2830. I'm assuming that it's the truck you have listed with the NP435 4spd.
Not that it matters as far as steering is concerned but rpm would factor into his gas usage. just my :2cents:

I got 16x8 rims with 315-75R-16 tires and they rub so I compensate by not turning as sharp. I got it donw to where I know when to stop and make my turn as if they didn't. Just dont go any bigger than that, Not sure what size they would be equivalent to like how Eggman918 did with his.

ps I dont got a real highboy its a F100 so you dont get confused.

33x 12.50xR15 or something like 285/75/R16 is a good looking tire on a high boy. Sorry to break it to you but bigger and wider tires always equals worse gas mileage and driveability.

I noticed the rpm difference vers the chart, I am positive about my gear ratios and tire size and 1to1 final drive so why the difference, bad tach? I have been wondering
why it does not match the chart :hmm:

It would have to be either your speedo is out or the tach inacurate.

Try this link, it's the one I have used. Pretty cool, http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp
