Steering Clunk

Post by smclaren »

Hi Guys

I am getting a very noticable "clunk" in my steering when turning the wheel to the right. Usually at low speeds when taking off whilst turning.

I am pretty sure its in the upper part of the colum, I can feel and hear that is definity up top somewhere.

Any idea's on what may be causing the clunk ?

Thanks as usual.

Steve, could you give a bit more info on your steering setup. Is your truck 2wd or 4X4, manual or power steering? Sounds like it could be in the rag joint, but could be something else. Look for wear along the steering shaft. If possible get a someone to turn the steering wheel while you watch the steering shaft. Might help you to find where the clunk is coming from.

it really is kind of hard to tell. the clunk could be caused from a number of things. it may just be the oly place the klunk is heard from is the upper bearign area is because it ias worn. the cause of the klunk could be from a bad rag joint. a bad or worn out of ad=jstment steerign box. bad or worn steering linkages. bad or worn out king pins. i have heard of that making it klunk like that. i have also heard and had happen the rag joint being bad too.

I have heard a clunk from time to time that I thought was related to steering. It turned out to be the clutch pedal popping back into full release position.
