and we have brakes!

Post by ezernut9mm »

yes! when i bought my 70 it had a low brake pedal but it wasn't spongy so i figured either the shoes were worn out or the drums were past their max diameter.

well, it has been pretty cold out lately, but today it finally got up into the 20's and the sun was shining. so i decided it was now or never-or at least until spring when all the snow melts- to get this figured out. i had my son hold the brake pedal down and cracked a rear line- nothing. so i cracked the other side and still nothing. i took one of the rear drums off to look at the condition of the shoes and the drum. surprisingly every thing looked fairly new. good thick shoes, nice clean drum and all new hardware. so i decided the master had to be bad and got one from advance auto and threw it on.

that was the ticket. nice solid brake pedal and brakes to all four corners. i like it when a project actually comes together. lol. and it wasn't to un-godly cold out once i got to working. now i can get it inspected and legal!

Brakes on all corners is nice. I spent a few cold days under my truck last winter dealing with brakes. When they are working, the four big drums actually stop my truck pretty well.

nothing like working under the truck when its cold and/or raining. builds character. lol
the old drums seem to stop the truck just fine. seem better than the 68 i had actually, and i thought they were pretty good.

I most have lots of character. I guess building a garage would be bad for my character?
