Re: Steering Column Parts
i have never seen a manual for these trucks except the repro wiring diagrams. i have no idea what tool they would be talking about. i doubt it woudl be needed though. as far as the tss and the two spoke newer wheel. i think they have to match each other i dont want to go digging for steerign wheels this late at night to check for sure.

Re: Steering Column Parts
The steering wheel fits on the column - I put it on today. The turn signal switch looks pretty darn good but still no flashing turn signals outside or on the dash, left or right, no sound- nada.
Can someone tell me where to look for the turn signal flasher? I'm starting to suspect that it is missing. There is a flasher under the dash to the right of the column, but I'm pretty sure that that one is for the emergency flashers since they worked the last time I turned them on.

Re: Steering Column Parts
i found a 79 steerign wheel sittign here. and the steerign wheel on it uses two contacts in it instead of one. soem one posted in the electrical section that the 70 and up steerign wheels were the same way. they use two hubs to run on for the tss to work properly fo rthe horn and soemthing else i think. so the switches are probably different there. as far as the tss flasher it is on the drivers side behind and attached to the instrument cluster. the emergency flahser hangs do from the passenger side behind the instrument cluster.

Re: Steering Column Parts
Okay, I'm pretty sure that I don't have a tss flasher installed then. Is there anyway I can identify where it's supposed to plug in (# of prongs, wire colors, etc). Hopefully I can obtain a flasher and the plug will be easy to find - I hope I don't have to re-wire - wiring scares me:)
What you said about the tss switch makes sense - there are contacts for the tss and horn in there. I think installing a flasher is the next logical step.

Re: Steering Column Parts
once you buy a flasher the plug will show you the shape of where it plugs in at. it is a nagle iron shaped plug. with only two female sockets for the flasher to go into.

Re: Steering Column Parts
That's what I'm hoping. I almost bought the plug too but they were out. I did note that the TSS flasher and socket are exactly the same PN as the emergency flasher so I can swap and test while i wait for the parts to come.

yes you can swap them to check and see if it works. i thought i remembered the emergency flahser was a heavy duty flasher and not the same as the ts flasher. i could be wrogn. i do know you can put in a heavy duty flasher in place of a regular flasher though. especially if you are going to tow soemthing you will want a heavy duty flasher in the ts circut.

Re: Steering Column Parts
How the tss is supposed to act when testing? I get current all the way up throuh the bule wire in the switch. The current turns off when the turn signal lever is up or down. I can't seem to measure any current coming out of the switch back to the lights. I have stong current on one side of the flasher and weak curent on the other.
I did discover that the horn and power wires were reversed. That brought power up to the switch but that didn't fix the turn signals.
