i know that is what they used before mig and tig. i dont know what kind of rod i used before. i just know it broek the brass several tiems. i gave up. i also stopped wearing that brass chuvvy belt buckle after it was has fixed the second time because tthe first weld broke .

I tigged mine with a small gassless welder years ago and never had a problem, if gas makes it better then tig with gas is a good way to go.

I only weld with TIG but I think it would work well. I found this article about using silicon bronze rod with TIG to weld steel:

It might be a good way to make a strong weld and keep from burning through thin steel.

Torch welded mine looks good has lasted many moons :thup:
