No Brakes!

Post by ak-1970-360 »

I cannon figure out the problem with my brakes. At one point my brakes worked great, then I disconnected the junction block underneath the master cylinder and now I have nothing. I tried bleeding the brakes and nothing, I am loosing all the fluid, even when sitting but cannot find the leak? It shouldnt be a bad master cyl. as the brakes worked great before I disconnected the junction block. Any Ideas im drawing a blank here, it has to be a leak I would think, maybe I am just blind in one eye and cant see out of the other. Maybe I didnt reinstall the copper washers for the banjo fitting properly?
Thanks
Josh

I would look around the junction block if you're loosing fluid. You might have cross threaded one of the fittings. Or possibly the washer like you mentioned. After inspecting/repairing the problem, you'll have to re-bleed the brake system. Remember to start with the brake farthest from the master cylinder and work in to the brake closest to the master cylinder.

AK70,
I am loosing all the fluid, even when sitting but cannot find the leak?
Have you looked inside the truck?
I've had master cylinders leak into the cab area (between the firewall and the floomat).

i have no idea where your leak is,but do have this to offer regarding bleeding brake system

gravity bleed---fill mc--set mc cover on without clamping it down--open all 4 bleeders--watch for steady drip from each bleeder--refill mc as necessary --close each bleeder when you have a nice clean steady flow--this will also help to keep the system flushed---one man job--no pumping involved

Thanks for your imput guys. I was wondering about leaking around the master cylinder but never thought to look inside the cab, being a off road truck there is always always plenty of mud and stuff on the floor to hide the leak. Also thanks for the tip on the one man bleeding trick. It will be a while before I look at it since I am stuck on the couch with a broken leg but I appreciate all the help.

I have always found that to be the best method also. Might be because I never have any help. I have also used the method of a rubber hose from the bleeder to a can full of brake fluid. Pump that one a couple times and check the fluid. Move on to the next farthest one.
If you are loosing fluid it is going somewhere for sure. Look under the driver's floor mat like mentioned and on the inside of the wheels. Usually it is the last thing you worked on though

if you have an external leak you will be loosing fluid from the master cylinder. check the fluid level.

If you have power brakes, it could be leaking into the booster.
