Power steering lines
Since I got my truck with no engine or transmission in it, I have no lines for the power steering.
I am putting in a 460.
Should I just order the ones for the 360? Or get the ones for a 460 in a 1973 F100?

Re: Power steering lines
id get the ones to match your pump. but it should be the same pump. so i would get them for a 73 with a 460 in it.

Re: Power steering lines
Do the dentsides use the same power steering gear as a 72?

You can always have new hoses made. Just about anywhere that makes hydraulic lines will make hoses for your PS setup.

Agreed. Much easier than having to track down hoses from the different vendors.

Re: Power steering lines
But FE's never came with a Saginaw pump, which the 460 will have, and the 460s never used a Ford/Thompson pump. Since the Ford/Thompson pump hose is connected via a 7/16-20 SAE flare, and the Saginaw pump is a 37-degree inverted flare, they will not interchange, and there is no adapter made for that.
Either get new hoses made, or just get the hoses for a 460 in a dentside.

Re: Power steering lines
Didnt the dentsides have a hydraulic type rod thing in the steering?
*edit* Thats for a 4x4 never mind.
What attaches the return hose to the power steering gear?

Re: Power steering lines
Anybody? The parts stores show a hose you get by the foot, so how does it attach to the steering gear?

Re: Power steering lines
the lines will have nuts on the tubes to screw into the steering gear.

I do get what you are saying, but something has been bothering me.
O'Reilly Auto Parts shows Cardone power steering pump part no. 20-6098 for both a 1972 F100 with a 360 (FE) and a 1973 F100 with a 460.
If the fittings on the original pumps are different, why the same replacement pump?
