Front brake t fitting
Does anyone know what this thing does or what it's correct name?
It seems like a check vavle for the main line to the left and right caliper lines. When i bled the brakes this thing is holding pressure on the calipers and keeping them locked down and the rotors will not turn. Unless i loosen the lines going to the tee and relieve the pressure.

Re: Front brake t fitting
Sounds to me like you're referring to the disc brake proportioning valve.

When bleeding brakes on a truck with front discs, you have to push in on that bleeder button to allow brake fluid to reach the front calipers.

Re: Front brake t fitting
It was not releasing pressure from the calipers.
How much do you want for it?

Re: Front brake t fitting
Any chance you replaced the master cylinder or brake booster?
Are you sure the pedal is coming all the way to the top?
This valve shouldn't stop fluid from returning to the MC and releasing the calipers.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

Re: Front brake t fitting
Yes i did replace the master cylinder and calipers all the lines are new, Rubber and steel. I have pressure at the valve when i crack the lines. No pressure at the master cylinder or the other prop valve on the frame rail.

here it is. those come apart pretty easily. they arent hard to clean though.the pin is very hard to push i found out. that spring is tough. the caliper nto opening back up is some sort of clog in the system. it could be any place. maybe even the new master is plugged with a bad rubber in it. that isnt letting the fluid work through it right. i think i would check the whole system before i went just replacing parts. soem people mightnot agree withthe way i would do this but what i would probably do is to take loose the lines from the master and step ont he brakes. and make sure fluid is coming out of the master. if it sprayed all over the place i would use a rag and clean it up. after all its my tuck. and it isnt all painted up nice. i woudl then proceed on down the lines until i found a place where i wasnt getting fluid. and i woudl check clena or replace that piece. whatever it was. i hate messes. but i dotn have a garage to work in so it all ends up on the ground and makes it easier to pack the gravel down. but i never get much on the ground so it doesnt matter. it always ends up on my shirt. or the truck.

I am getting fluid all the way from the master cylinder to the calipers i have bleed air from them. I just cant get them to release the pressure after i bleed them out.

Re: Front brake t fitting
Ya would think that the master cyl. would be the place where your 'check valve' type of operation would occur. The possibility of incorrect adjustment of the rod coming out of the brake booster comes to mind.
Keith posted good info in this thread about that:
http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... od#p408306
If you loosen the connection at the proportioning valve that goes up to the master cyl and your brakes release that would be an indication that the MC is as fault not the valve.
If your brakes don't release then it would indicate the proportioning valve.

Re: Front brake t fitting
I have loosened the line on the top of the proportioning valve going back to the master cylinder and the brakes did not release. However if i loosen the line from the caliper to the proportioning valve they release. That is why i think it's the valve. There is not any pressure at the master cyinder when you crack the line for the front brakes.

I apologize, I should have read more carefully.
Does seem like your are correct in the diagnosis of your problem. The valve is not working correctly.
Perhaps you could take it apart and clean it out as fordman suggested, or get the spare one he has.
At least if you go replacing it, Ford trucks and vans up to 1975 should have the same part.
