Master cylinder brake lines

Post by sport71 »

Does any one know where I can find the curled brake lines that go from the master cylinder to the proprtioning block?

Yep... yopu can get them at any parts house... they come straight, you gotta bend 'em yerself.

I just went through that with my '68 CS

click on pic to enlarge.

The top one is the original. You'll notice there aren't fittings on it... One broke off, the other one was so stripped out that I cut it off and drove a 1/4 inch drive socket on it to get it broken loose from the distribution block.
Here it is all hooked up to the new MC...
I picked up a pair of new wheel cylinders for the front today... So I can finish up that project tomorrow.

wind them round a beer bottle - it will curve them without crushing the pipes.

Hey Sport71...

An Idea that came up when I was doing mine, was to use nylon weed whacker line and feed it through the line before doing any bending.
I bought one of those $20 brake line bending tools... poc didn't work worth a diddley.
I just got the old one and matched bend for bend by hand.
The new lines are made of some alloy that bends easier without crimping.

Hi Sport71!

If you'd rather save time than money, you can order those brake lines pre-bent from Inline Tube. I ordered mine from there and liked the way they turned out! They're stainless also.

Image

Note only this, but they also put the factory-style armor around the brake lines if you want. Here's an example of that factory style:

I also had them make the new stainless tubing to fit between my gas tank and engine:

These custom stainless tubing lengths were kind of expensive, but came out beautiful and saved some time. At the time I had these made, I had a lot more money on hand than time, so it was a good choice then. If you're curious about the specifics I could dig out a receipt and let you know what to expect!

Hi Tim!

Those clips also came from Inline Tube. If you go to their web site and click on "Brake Clips & Clamps" (in the left hand pane), you'll see those clips in the long list of clips that come up.

Oddly, I think the exact part numbers have changed since I ordered mine. So I'm not sure if I ordered the ELK3/16 or the CLPS01. The CLPS01 looks a little more like the clips I have.

These clips worked very nicely, although I wound up enlarging their mounting holes (in the clips themselves, not in the frame) to use a good sized bolt to hold them on. They come with screws that are kind of "a joke."

They worked very well and are a great upgrade from worn out factory clips.

Those are great, especially in stainless steel they'll last forever. My dad went out and did it again, he got some tube at the parts store and made them himself. He also put an adjusting proptioning valve next to the master cylinder, too balance out all 4 disk brakes. I know that once I have the truck here with me at home I'll be adding all kinds of things that I left out of the build, just to keep me bussy, that's for sure..
I love the brake lines you put on with the armor, and clips. They don't just look good, they are the best you can buy...
Thank you for the web page on those brake lines, for sure I'll be getting the stainless ones. :fr:

I can across my receipt for these clips today! I ordered LK3/16 for the brakes and LK5/16 for the fuel lines; here's the receipt. You may wish to click on it for the full-sized version!
