Carolina Classics column rebuild?

Any of you guys ever used Carolina Classics for a 3 speed column rebuild? My donor P/S 3 speed column needs a complete rebuild & im working 6-12's for the next few months so I have very little time. Everything looks good on it, the shift tube looks like new, & the steering shaft shows very little wear if any at all. It does need new bearings all around & also the plastic thrust washers are worn.

I have never done buisness with them, but they look to be a great outfit.

I haven't used their column rebuild services but I deal with Rick twice a year.They are at the Charlotte AutoFair swap meet twice a year.Very knowledgeable about our trucks,good prices too.I say go for it!.Let us know how it comes out. Calvin

those columns are very easy to rebuild if its in that good of condition. all you have to do is replace parts in them. i took 2 columns and made one good one once. it was easy. i just took all the good parts and put them into one column it took me a hour or so while watching tv.

the harest parts are rethreading the tss switch into the column. i used yarn to do mine. and to keep the shifter levers and spacer all in order as they go out and come back in. the rest is just putting bearing in and pushing it back together with those nuts. that may have actually been the hardest part. that took 15 minutes of fooling with them.

Ah, but how long did it take to get the column out of the truck?

not long. the usual time probably 20 minutes. maybe a little more.

My guess is that if you want it done, they'll do it, even if they aren't advertising it.

No, not yet. Im still torn between the 3 speed or going auto. Im really leaning towards the auto at this point regardless of carolina classics. If I can find a couple of pieces for the auto im missing, its a done deal.

What parts are you missing?

They are no big deal really. I need a kick down rod for a C4 & the short driveshaft.

I will most likely go with a cable unit for the kick down. Like a Lokar or similar kick down.

& I think fordman has a bunch of the short driveshafts, I just need to get the tranny in the truck to get him a measurement.

Its one of those deals where you have to do it all at once. You cant just piece it together one at a time...
