Re: dipstick plug size
just measured a dipstick tube I have here and it measures .370".
So I'd say the 3/8" plug should go in.

Re: dipstick plug size
no luck. the parts stores dont have any. the only place i can find any plugs at all is npd. and that is a freeze plug kit for the whole engine. i do not know if it has that plug in there or not. i did find another kit on beay but i dont know yet if any of the small ones are for the dipstick hole either. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... Re: dipstick plug size
if not it would be no problem for me to pick one up and drop it in the mail.
Otherwise I would just clean the hole good, cover a short bolt with sealer and push it in...

Re: dipstick plug size
I have seen several 4x4 FE motors with a .38 or .357 brass shoved in the dipstick hole.

Re: dipstick plug size
Hi Fordman!
When I received my engine from Proformance Unlimited it had a 4x4 pan on it, and they plugged the 4x2 dipstick hole with some kind of tough, white putty. It seemed to work well and was fairly easy to remove when I decided to put on a front sump oil pan later. I'll post photos of the way they did it if you're interested.

Re: dipstick plug size
no i wouldnt use some sort of miracle goo to plug anything like that with. i dont want it to fall out later. this is a used engine with grease on it. cleaning it up good enough to get something to stick to it would be harder because i dont want to strip it down. the only thing i should be doing though is putting a timing chain in it though. i just though of that. thanks.
