How tight should bolts be that smash copper crush washers

Post by robroy »

Good evening!

While putting the brake hoses on I realized that I wasn't sure how tight to make the "Banjo Bolts" that smash the copper crush washers. I probably made them tighter than they needed to be.

Does anybody have advice on how tight to make those? What's a good basic guideline?

Thanks!

The '77 chassis manual states 18-25 ft-lbs....go with 23 ft./lbs.

Thanks Keith! I didn't see a torque value in the 1972 manual in the disc brake section; I was probably looking in the wrong place.

I probably torqued them higher than 23 ft/lbs!

Thanks again,

You're not going to cover up all the beautiful work with a wheel are you? ;)
Looks like you are doing an awesome job! If all else goes like this, you'll need to park it on the "show room floor" when your done.
Very nice work Robroy!

Scott thanks for the complements!

I am indeed going to cover it up with wheels. And I'm even going to use the factory steel wheels, which still have the original finish on them. They're not looking so good, but my goal is to have the truck back on the road this summer, so some things will wait until I have it all apart again.

Thanks again Scott!
