I am shopping for a new set of tires for my manual steering, 3 speed on column truck. Currently have mismatched 235/75/15's on it. Should I drop down to 225/75/15 or stay where I'm at.
While we're on the topic, and good bargain brand tires I should consider? I've been calling around looking for take-offs, but haven't found anything in the right size.

I use Bridgestone 235/75R-15 on my 67. It's a little hard to turn when not rolling but it keeps the arms in good shape. I recommend Discount Tire.

No question about you get what you pay for when it comes to tires. If the front end is solid, definitely pays to get the most tire you can. But if your front end has any issues then you don't want to chew good tires up.

The best deal I ever had on tires was BFG T/As on my 72. I had 6 of them and got 90,000 miles and stilll had 2 good ones. Get them at Sam's club.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

I know what your saying about tires. On a Blazer I had several years back I went from a mismatched set of generic A/T to some Michelin LTX's and the change in ride & handling was incredible.
But with my truck, I rarely drive it more than 20 miles at a time, plus I may be selling it this fall to get a shortbed. My current tires have decent tread but the sidewalls look cracked & dry rotted.
I have got some prices out the door for around $200. Discount tire would sell me Kelly-Springfields for that. I'd love to get a better grade of tire, but need to watch the budget. Anyone know of some places to find take-offs? Maybe some 4x4 places or something like that.

The width of the tire is what effects steering ease, not
the height. So being both are 75 series, you could use
either one with about the same steering effort. The
235 will be slightly taller though, and could increase
gearing/mpg slightly at speed vs the 225. Myself,
I'd probably stick with what you have. My 74 has
215/75/15's, and next changout, I may go with a
235 to gear it down a tad. Within a certain series,
going to a larger size does increase the width, but
it is slight, and probably not noticed much when
steering. MK

This place has dealer take-offs, blems, and buffed tires. I was gonna buy a set off them for my 70 Camper special till I sold it recently. http://www.nebraskatire.com/hot_deals/hot_deals.htm

I forgot I have a pair of 235/75's I took off a previous truck, so I'll use those for the front, they got about 30 k left on them. This will give me a little more money to put a better pair of tires on the rear.
