Tire size?

Post by '67 ford f-250 »

My son just bought some 16" by 8" five stars and is wanting tires on his 67 f250. with no suspension modifications, what size tire will look nice on his truck? pics are encouraged and will help him make his decision easier. thanks for all the help guys, Anthony (P.S. he has been looking at 245/70-16's. does he need something bigger?)

I have 235/85/16 on the front and about to put 265/75/16 on the back. 265/75/16 are a bit smaller but wider or I may change my mind and get 285/75/16. 245/70/16 will look small like the 8.75/16.5 that I had

in this pic I have 8.75/16.5 in the back and they are a bit bigger than 245/70/16

You might be able to find a 31-10.50 for a 16" wheel. They come out to about a 265 I think.

somethin to think about too is the taller tire will get your revs down a little at cruisin speeds

All I know is 8" wide wheels are too wide for 235/85-16's. (replacement for the old 7.50-16's)
But those clunky looking -truck- tires prob'ly -aren't- what he's wanting anyway! LOL :)

I run 235/85-16E's on 16 x7" steel wheels.
Mine came with H78-15's on 5.5 inch wide wheels and it was squirrely as hell! :/
Dangged Ford and their narrow wheels. :/
Too much factory/dealer toe-in didn't help either. :/

Anyway, he's now limited to what tires sizes fit his 8" wheels.
Use your head on this! Look and study it on your own.
Those dangged tire salesman will say a tire will fit a certain wheel width, when it ain't a good idea!

Been there seen that with my brother in law and many other times listening while waiting at the tire
shop. With my brother in law the salesman knew better, I could tell, I argued the other side, but my
brother in law got too big of tires for his wheels because that's what he wanted and the salesman said
"it'd be ok" and he ended up with a squirrely pickup. {shrug} I did my best, but when -looks- is all that
counts to a guy... what the heck does well-reasoned-ideas got to do with anything? LOL :)

 Thanks guys for the replies. He is wanting kind of a sporty look and trying not to have to lower the rear so I thought maybe tires that fill the wheel well would work. I like the look of the 265/70's, they really make the wheel POP. thanks for all the input guys, It looks like he will have to wait till after school and he goes back to his summer job to buy tires so we will take time, keep reading you posts and look at the local dealers and hopefully make an educated decision. thanks, Anthony

Niced looking wheels. Is the offset going to work on the truck? They look like for a front wheel drive or a modern truck or suv.

the offset is going to work out fine. we checked with the distributor to check on fitment and he is very reputable and fairly local? (Columbus, Ohio, about 135 miles) they should fit the truck like BiggDoggs If I am thinking right, and I may not be, the tire height should be around 29 to 30 inches? I think. should be enough to fill the wheel well. Anthony
