Not sure if this is a bright idea or a burnt out bulb.
I can't stand the location of the distribution block inside the frame so I was thinking that for my disc brake conversion and putting in a new disc/drum proportioning valve, why not relocate the valve up to the master cylinder like they do on the late model vehicles? I assume the 73-79 valves aren't going to be a direct replacement for the drum/drum anyways and the lines are going to have to be altered to some degree. Yay/Nay?

Re: Relocating Disc/Drum Proportioning Valve
Yes, a proportioning valve should always be located as close to the master cylinder as possible, for best results.
In fact, if you use a '73-'77 proportioning valve, it WILL be located up front, just under the master cylinder on top of the steering box. The '78-'79 trucks' prop valves are located at the back of the front crossmember, which will work just fine as well.
Here's a picture I took of my '73-'77 style when I was assembling the chassis:

It will work fine there,I've done 5-6 disc swaps over the years and a few came from factory with prop valve mounted between master cyl and steering box(mounted to the top of the gear box),ran across a 73-74 in wrecking yard the other day with this setup,I will pick it up next time I go if you need it.

Re: Relocating Disc/Drum Proportioning Valve
So I like the proportioning valve in the frame rail. Then it's out of the way and with less clutter in the engine compartment. What's the reasoning why it should be close to the master cylinder? I got a setup from a '73 F100 that was in the frame rail and thought I'd keep it, but if it will perform much better on the power steering pump then I guess I'd better do that, right?

it doesn't matter where you put the valve. just as long as it works for you.
