4-link ????????

Post by blgold »

I know I keep popping up all over the place in here, but I have so much time to think and get so many great ideas, I can't really decide. Originally I thought that I just wanted to do a basic resto-mod with some goodies under the hood, but now I'm thinking that if I'm going to spend all that time and money that I better get it the way I want it. I was wondering if anyone knows a good place to get a 4-link kit with coil overs for our trucks or do you have to peace one together. I can weld but my tool sellection is limited. Any help would be greatly apreciated

I used the Fatman Fabrications kit. It was ok, it is the same one they used in the bumpside build off article in Classic Trucks magazine. I didn't make it as low as they did in the article. Rented a plasma cutter for the weekend to cut the plates for boxing the frame, money well spent!!

Here is a pic from above, I need to take one from the side with the tires off it

I am looking for the same stuff but for my 63 Slick.

I like the No Limit Fat Bar better. The front mount looks like it is beter designed that the Fat Man.

I am not looking at a 4 link for lowering as much as I am for traction so I am looking now a lowering the truck with DJM hangers and shakles and using a ladder bar setup for traction. Any comments on this set up and has anyone here used it before, with what results :hmm:

I'm not really familiar with suspension/traction problems in trucks but in general you want to generate anti-squat in order to create traction at the rear tires. One thing I do know is that coil spring setups are harder to generate antisquat with... at least in cars. Are you geting axle hop ? What kind of traction issues are you having ?

I haven't started building this truck yet, but I have had one in the past and had problems with traction before. I am sure it will be a problem again because I plan to build much more power this time. trying to think ahead before I jump in

Whats the goal with it ? Are you going to drag race it or just drive it around the street ? A lot of traction bars might help. If you have a good posi unit and can prevent axle wrap, you will usually hook unless you break the tires loose. If you are just plain braking tires loose then you need some stickier tires.... be careful tho, power isn't what brakes stuff.... traction is =)

Put a watts link in it and get some good sticky tires on it and call it a day.

I had a camaro one time ( younger dumber days) that had a bar that was bolted to the front of the rear diff and ran all the way up to the rear of the trans. Not really sure what it was called but building something similar shouldn't be that hard

Thats called a torque arm. They are very effective when paired with a panhard bar or watts link.
