240 six power steering belt routing?
Mine can't be correct, right now I have one belt running water pump, alternator and power steering pump. It works but the belt is not getting much bite on the water pump pulley. If someone has the correct set up please post a picture or drawing. Thanks

To the best of my knowledge Ford never installed power steering on 6-cylinder trucks from our era, so if yours has it, it's been fitted on by a previous owner. However, since you've only got one drive belt, he apparently did not install the lower crankshaft pulley with the extra groove, which means he probably also had to modify the pump mount to sit farther back so that the pump pulley's groove would line up. This is basically how it should look:
This pic was taken on an '80s-vintage truck. The pump, brackets, pulleys, etc. will fit right onto yours, so if your missing something, don't worry....they should be easy to find in the U-Pull-It yard.

Keith,
Thanks very much for the picture. I have three groves on the crankshaft pulley. I can't see how the p/s pump was moved back to line up with back pulley but it does line up well. I think all I need to do is figure out how that was done and un do it.
On another matter, did you get my email with my address so you can figure shipping for item 13, radio? No hurry but just wanted to be sure you got the email.

Yes, I got your e-mail. Give me a couple days to respond....things are pretty busy around here right now.
Is your pump mounted on the front of the timing cover or the rear? If it's mounted to the front, I wouldn't think it's pulley would line up with the rear groove of the crankshaft pulley. However, if was was mounted to the back, then it might just line up OK, but the pump's rear support bracket would line up with the threaded hole in the block without some modification.

re: 240 six power steering belt routing?
I'm really sorry these pics took so long
but here are pics of a stock '69 power steering system for a 6cyl truck
these pics came out HUGE (over a meg each) so I'll link them
these 2 are of the pump itself
https://home.comcast.net/~oldfordtruck1 ... pump-1.jpg
https://home.comcast.net/~oldfordtruck1 ... pump-2.jpg
these 2 also show the waterpump pulley and belt routing.
the water pump is about a 1/2" shorter than the ones that my 70's and 80's trucks use.

oldhalftons,
Thank you very much for the pictures of the correct ps bracket. Now I know what to look for. You don't have an extra bracket do you?
Thanks again for taking the pictures, great help.

Just looking, it looks like you have the early pulley with the late brackets, so it might be possible to install a late PS pulley and correct the alignment. (Note the later pulley is not "flat")
Measurements would be in order, but it could work.
