73 and up steering column in 67 4x4
I swaped in a floor shift column out of a 73-77 (not sure of the year) in a 67 4x4 we are restoring for a customer. The 67 f00 4x4 came from the factory with a 360/auto, but durng its life had a 4 speed put in it. The original steering colum was shot so I put in a dent side column I had laying around the shop. It didnt matter because I put a painless wiring kit in it si I could put any column in it. My problem is the customer does not like the 73 style wheel and bought a new 67 style wheel and deluxe horn ring kit. The stud sticks out to far to mount the chrome steering wheel trim ring. Can I swap out the old shaft and use the rest of the dent side parts?

I'm assuming that this is what you're talking about (on the right)?

Why not just take the cutoff wheel to the top of the shaft? The only reason that extra nub is there is to support the back of the plastic horn strip housing on the two-spoke wheels.
However, to answer your question...yes, the bumpside shaft will work in the dentside column.

Hi Tybob81!
I ground off the nub on my 1972 steering shaft to fit a '67-'69 steering wheel. I haven't installed the wheel yet, but here's how it looked after the grinding:

I was going to say, cut or grind it off. A lot of Mustang guys do that to fit Grant wheels on.

I figured on cutting it down, but a little assurance from the forum never hurts. Thanks for the pics posted.

Or you can cut a hole in the horn button. I've done it that way and saved the hassle of pulling the shaft or getting grinding fines all over inside the truck.

I just cut the nub down and dressed it with a mill file. Works great!
