I had the exact same wheels as Blackpearl on a 72 shortbed I build back about 92. I could buy the 8 inch wheels over the counter at a truck supply store in Anchorage but they haven't been able to get them for a long time. You should be able to run a 10 inch wide tire on the 8 inch wheel.
I think the original size on the 15x 5 1/2 inch wheels was a 700x15. I don't know if that even has a metric equivalent. Any tire store can give you the acceptable range of rim widths for a given tire.

here are those huge rims i was talking about. i only got the one pic of them. i think they are 8 lug rims though. but they are huge.

I was told by the tire store that p235 75r 15 is the replacement for the g78 15, maybe the guy was pulling my leg but they look stock on my truck. I do know white walls are getting harder to find. They just look at you kinda funny when you tell them you want a white wall.
