a guy on CL has a disc brake frontend off of a 66' f100. so someone swapped a 73+ f100's frontend onto it, now i dont know what year this stuff is. he has the ibeams, all brake parts behind the wheels, MC, and proportioning valves.he doesnt have the radius arms. right now im not sure if he has the booster, steering linkage, pitman arm, front brake lines or brackets.
will my radius arms work with this stuff or do i have to just find 73-79 radius arms to swap on with this stuff?
thanks, oh and he only wants $80ish for it.

Re: need disc brake conversion help
you can use your old radius arms. and i think but i'm not sure you can use your old steering linkage. but there might be something about the tie rod ends being a different length when they go throgh the steering arm of the wheel bracket. the 73 stuff should just swap right over though with out having to change the spindle. thi si only what i think i remember. check the steering discbrake swap page for a complete refresher onthe wholle swap thing.

Re: need disc brake conversion help
You can use your radius arms but cant use the steering linkage because the tapered part of the rod ends are different sizes!

Re: need disc brake conversion help
darn, i allready stripped my steering linkages and por-15'd them and everything
oh well.
soo i need steering linkages off of a '73+ and do i need a pitman arm off a dent too?
and then i just need brackets for brake lines i think
heres the stuff. got it all for $80 from a guy that said "yeah i have two old chevys and this 66 f100, i swapped a chevy engine into the ford too , but i love ford".

where do i mount this proportion valve thing, and what do i do with the old one

ive stripped the beams for por-15 allready, and ive got to grab the old radius arms from under the scrap pile in the sideyard. im going to order bushings now too.
oh well.

The proportioning valve mounts to the top of your steering box. You could just leave the distribution box that's there now attached to the frame, since you're going to be learning the art of brake line fabrication.

Sweet find - keep us posted on the conversion. I'd love to see some pics of the progress.1971ford wrote:darn, i allready stripped my steering linkages and por-15'd them and everything

Re: need disc brake conversion help
read this page. you may not need all of that. which truck are you putting it on? the 69 or the 71? the chart on the page shows the kingpin sizes for the trucks so you may not need the ibeams or spindles either. you might be able to swap out the dust shields and the caliper holder then just put the hubs and discs on it with the calipers. check this page and the other one too. it tells alot about what is needed and what you can swap without a bunch of other swapping. http://www.fordification.com/Ibeamsspindles.htm

Re: need disc brake conversion help
Its going on the 69 f100 to replace the drums.
I guess i should start by finding out what year stuff i have.
But i think instead of finding out which parts i need (out of the lot i got) and which old parts i can use, ill just use all the dentside stuff i got. swap i-beams in, spindles, discs, dentside steering linkage (does this have to be from a 73-79 f100/f150 with discs?), my old radius arms, and a pitman arm (do i need this with dentside linkage?).
