DJM beams and 6 cylinder springs...

Post by dantheman71 »

If I put 6 cylinder springs in my V-8 truck along with my DJM drop beams will I get a lower stance??

I have lowered my 1972 with DJM drop beams. It has a 302 with a C4 automatic. Right now the truck is kind of stripped down so it is lighter than it will be when it is done. Hood and fenders and rad support removed, engine and tranny are in and full of oil. The engine will be getting aluminum heads and intake which will make the front end a bit lighter, but just adding coolant will probably offset that difference. Anyway, the problem is even though I probably have 200lbs to put back on the truck I still have a big positive camber. I would consider cutting the coils like td did (love that stance) but I am scared I will take too much and end up with negative camber (and then there is no going back).

I have a 6 cylinder parts truck and would like to just do a direct spring swap and leave it at that. Is this possible? Will it help?

My other question is if I do have to cut springs do I cut the top or bottom?

Here is how it currently looks

I would take a more direct shot, but that involves opening my garage door and going outside. It was -40C here last night, so that just isn't happening

Dan,

if you want it a little lower, just cut 1/2 round at a time until you get it like you want, thats what i did. it'd be better to wait until you have all your weight back on first

if you cut them cut the tops off. i think orginal springs are the same for v8 and 6 cyl. aftermarket springs are different for v8 and 6 cyl.

Also, beware when ever judging camber on a twin-I setup, if you have lifted up the truck and then set it back down, the camber will not settle back to the orginal position. You need to role it some, back and forth, for the camber to settle back down.

All good advice. Keith has all the spring and gvw factory spec on the site somewhere. Just being a 6 banger doesn't guarantee a certain spring, you could order differnt GVW with a six or 8.
We ordered a set of "stock" springs from NAPA once for a buddys F100 with FE engine and it jacked the front up about 3 inches, looked hideous.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.
