The beds sit right on the frame. Most trucks carry more weight in the front of the bed (spares, jacks toolboxes) over their lives. Most 40 year old trucks have dents in the sheetmetal bed crossmembers where they bolt to the frame.

Hmmm...I don't have the issue of the "broke frame look", but I have been thinking of lifting my truck's stance about 2 inches. I want it to present a stout, studly appearance.

Of course, I reckon dropping it an inch or two would do the same based off of the tire and rim selection.

Hi All,
Lots of chatter about cab mounts.......good info. After replacing the original rusted out cab mounts
I realize I need new rubber insulators. Does anyone know where I can buy just the insulators?
Canadian supplier preferred but not essential.
Thanks,
Carl

After reading the above, would it be best to jack the truck up taking the weight off suspension, level the frame, and then adjust the panel lines? I imagine this would identify which insulators or mounts are weak. I'm hoping to get to this point of work not too far in the future..

One last thing to check. The cab sits on mounts on the frame. Living in the rust belt, mine had rusted through on the right side. That caused the rubber cab isolators to sink through about half way. I had to make new steel plates and weld them in place over the dammaged mounts on the frame. Just one other thing to check. :)

AFAICT my truck hasn't been wrecked. But the bed does run downhill at the back of the cab. Like the one side (drivers) needs to lift up a half inch to line up with the cab belt line right. Bed is real rusty, but mounts seem solid still?

Hockey pucks work well for spacers between the body and frame. At $1.00 each it's a good deal, and they are strong. :)

UGH.... Dont remind me :pout: . I need to replace my drivers side cab mount & all the rubber bushings on the truck. Thats one thing we didnt do in 94, simply because at the time, they didnt need it. But that was 14 years ago.

Here is my sagging cab. The chrome really makes it stand out.

& the cause of it all. Rusted/fatigued cab mount & isolator.

My 69 has zero rust and good looking rubber mounts. If I look at the truck's side standing tweenty feet away it looks straight. However, If my standing up by the grille looking down the side it looks bowed. I think its an optical illusion caused by the lower bed side panel behind the rear wheels. I curls up and in. If you stand back from the drivers door about 20 feet and it looks bowed, it is. The hocky puck trick is a great idea.
