Need vendor for rear axel u bolt 67 F250

Post by fireguywtc »

I have run into a snag putting my rear suspension together when I had to cut and get rid of my old axel u bolts. I tried the local parts stores then LMC to no avail. I actually ordered some from LMC and when they arrived they where the round ended type, mine are the square end. I sent them back and they finally told me tough luck they don't have anyting like that. I have looked at several other vendors such as NPD, Blue oval, ect. and their advertisements in the magazine are rather vague for odering u bolts. I want to make sure I am getting the right kind before ordering.

Has anyone had any experience with getting these square type u bolts for the 67 F250? They seem to be unique for the 67 F250 with the non flexomatic springs. Thanks, Bill

Buy your U-bolts from a truck spring shop. They custom make them to your specs and they usually use much better materials than what off the shelf U-bolts are made from.

I have the same setup on my'67, but have overload springs. I put lift block in the rear for greater clearance and had to replace the u bolts. The ones I bought were longer to accomodate the blocks, and I think they came with the blocks. That was about nine years ago, haven't had any problems. I think I got them at Kragen.

thanks for the replies,

Dustin, I will have to try some local truck shops. I would have never thought of that.

tc, there is no kragen/checker/shucks in my area. I did check the other chain parts stores to no avail. They all had u bolts, just not the right width.

And they should do it while you wait. My big F350 ones cost less than $50 for the four of them.

$50 seams to be the average for me too. I always measure to see the biggest U-bolts I can run. You can often fit 5/8" U-bolts in place of 9/16".

There is a night and day difference between the U-bolts you get with a lift kit and the stuff made by a spring shop. The two local shops I use both use rolled B-7 stock, ground grade 8 flatwashers and nice long grade 8 nuts.

If the bottom piece is removable (where the nuts are) it sure looks like you could use a round u-bolt and point them up with a standard style top.

Just an option if no-one can supply uoi with that 90 degree bend

Yes stang they are removable. I did think of that too. However, I would have to get the proper shackle to go over the top of the springs. I don't know how much those would cost and which ones would fit. Overall it just seemed easier to try and get the proper square end u bolts then trying to adapt the round type. Still a thought if I can't find a shop around here to make the bolts. I couldn't find any promising businesses when I did a yellow page search! I am going to call around Monday. I may have to go to Austin to get it done  I really appreciate all the help!!

It's not all that important on a light pickup, but the square U-bolts with a plate on the axle are a stronger design.
