Does anybody know of a vendor for braided brake line covers?

I'm replacing the brake lines on my truck, and I've noticed that some of them had braided, fabric covers over certain sections, like this:



Does anybody know where to buy this stuff?

Classic Mustang shops... there are several places it is used (brake imbalance switch is one of the) and they had it on the wall last time I was in one...

You might want to try http://www.cal-mustang.com/ because there they olny mustang place i know of that sells the frame pice for my comet. I'll ask my dad some more because he's been getting catalogs for his 71 that he's gonna be restoring.

It seems that they didn't have the covers. They recommended Mustangs Plus and Mustang Depot, but I haven't called those places yet.

In related news, I ordered the spring coil type brake line protector from this place:

The stainless version was around $3.50 per foot. This should come in handy for the lines going to the front brake hoses, since they had this metal coil protector on them from the factory.

Any other ideas about where to get the braided fabric sleeves instead of Mustang restoration shops?

Robroy... the coil covered lines are available thru your local Napa. I like the look of 'em but they can be a pain in the arse to bend. As for the braided covering, i would have to ask....why?? Seems to me that it would not offer much protection, and keep any sort of moisture nice & close to the line, with the chance for corrosion. Just my

Hi Fitzwell, that's a good point that I hadn't considered.

My motivation in putting the factory-style sleeves back on is just to return the brake lines to factory spec, or as close as I can get.

But you could be right. Maybe they're really unnecessary.

Since I removed my lines long ago I can't really eyeball them to size up the real danger that the sleeves are designed to protect against.

Hey Eric, I called Bel-Kirk Mustang, and it seems that they don't actually have access to the braided fabric sleeves. They do have the wire coil sleeve protectors, but I heard that they've tried lots of suppliers in the past for the fabric type and been unsuccessful in finding a source for those.

Considering Fitzwell's good comment about the braided sleeves inviting corrosion, I'm inclined to forget about the sleeves. I ordered a good length of the coil wire type protector sleeve material, so I can always use that instead on those areas.

Well thanks for all the help folks! I'll post pics of the completed job once it's 100%.
