Gas Tank ?

Post by ford4x4fun »

http://www.quantaproducts.com/prodinfo.asp?number=F-1A

This is a replacement gas tank for 73 to 78 fords, if I have a parts truck, would I be able to mount this take under my truck :? I am putting buckets in my truck, and don't want the gas tank in there, and I can't put one in my bed, because I have my bike in there a lot. And if anyone has a better idea that would be great too.

Thanks

I may have lied to ya
http://www.fordification.com/fuel-tank01.htm

Another factory option for an auxiliary fuel tank which can be used as a bolt-on for the '67-'72 era of Ford pickups actually was an option during the '73-'79 era. Because the rear frame rails (from the rear of the cab on back) on the '73-'79 2WD trucks are 4" wider than the previous generation, the standard rear-mounted fuel tanks cannot be used. However, the '73-'77-1/2 4WD truck's frames were NOT wider....they are the same width as the '67-'72 generation and will fit the earlier trucks perfectly. These highboys still used the in-cab tank, but a plastic 20-gallon auxiliary tank was available which fit between the rear frame rails. It was filled from the side, so an access door would have to be fabricated on the bed side for refueling (see Fig. 17).

so looks like 73 to 77 1/2 f-250 4wd frames are the same width. So it might just fit.

However the tank dimensions show it being 34-3/4" wide so it is too wide. Now I have confused both of us

No chance of getting your hands on one out of are trucks? I understand what your sayin about bucket seats(doin the same)and not wanting the gas tank. I stole the Aux. out of my 67 and its direct bolt in----you'll need to steal all the parts including cross member, but alot less fabrication IMHO :2cents:

I would like to find one, but getting one close to my house seams to be harder than I though :? I am going to try to talk my wife into going and getting that 68 with her dad. We will see if she will go for it. It has one in it

What about 78-79 Bronco rear tanks? Or earlier Bronco's?

The 78-79 demension is 31-7/8 x 22-1/4 x 15-3/4.

I have wondered but I am a ways from this, so have not went in to deep research yet.

I recall seeing a link on here that talked about a 69 and up Mustang gas tank being fitted where the spare tire hanger (stock) was and he framed with angle iron I believe. I'd really like that, but it would concern me someone would borrow my truck, have it loaded with something, pull in for gas and have a problem. That's the main thing that keeps me from doing that, cutting a door into the bed floor. As I recall that link, I think they even made a 22 gallon Mustang tank, which would be even better. I recall whoever posted that, it involved a really nice gas cap that gave the fellow this whole idea.
I'd love to get the gas tank out of my cab too to help some with odors.

But he's got a 4x4 so the factory aux tank for the 2wd won't work.

Hmm nevver thought of that... I am going to look around, I don't have the link on this computer, but I found one that actually drops into your bed, you have to cu a hole for it, but it just becomes part of the truck bed... I don't know yet, I still have time, I just know with bucket seats I don't want it in the cab anymore. Thanks All
