Upper Coil Spring Retainer

Post by derek7871 »

I'm going to replace my front coils on my '68 soon. I noticed that the upper spring retainer is broken on one side. I found this link for a retainer for a '73-'79 truck:

I'm assuming they will work for my '68, but I just wanted someone else to say so....

I don't think it would hard to make one esp since the other side is good. But you do need it. Just recently my brother in law doing 80ish in a 2001 f250 SD PSD, up I5 south of Stockton went over a big rut (road work), flex the right front so far the spring disappeared. The truck slammed down on the right. He kept on the road got slowed downed and outta the way. Turns out the bolt was stripped and the strap can off sometime be fore.
The only good part of this was He had 2 shops inspect the front end in the month before the trip, they both split the tow bill and repair cost.

C6TZ5B300F .. Coil Spring Retainer-Upper / Fits 1966/71 F100/250 2WD / Obsolete.

Internet parts search turned up the following NOS originals.

Bowman Ford in Bowman ND has one.

Griesel Motor Co. in Okarche OK has one.

That's all I could find.

Those two dealers show one each, and the part number is shown for 66/71 only.

The part number shown for 1972, and 1973 and later is not the same.

Will the later retainer work? I dunno.
