Hey all. I am close to getting the cab of the 67 4x2 and I need some help with the auto steering column. I would like to take it out in as close to one piece as possible. What is the easiest way to get it out in one piece? Any help would be appreciated. This steering column and power steering stuff is still for sale.
I hope i dont forget anything and if i do im sorry. I hope this helps
disconecct the steering wheel from the rag joint( where it coneccts to the steering box).
take out the bolts holding the brackets on the fire wall that are holding the steering wheel, and lossen the clamp on that same bracket that hold it to the steering colum.
unhook the shifter bar going to the transmission from the colum. Move into the cab and where the steering colum goes through the firewall there should be about 5 or so screws that hold the seal to the fire wall take those out.
Unplug the wires going to the colum from the harness and then finally take the to bolts under neith the dash and if all went well and i didnt for get any thing the colum should fairly easily pull out.
If it feels like it doesnt want to come out very easy stop and check around to see if its still coneccted to something or hung up.
I had a hard time getting my first one out cause i didnt know that it was sealed on the inside with screws holding the seal.
I don't really care about brands Chevy Ford Dodge ...as long as it doesn't sound like two old dudes farting in a coffee can. http://s169.photobucket.com/albums/u223/imabaka70/ Projects listed on the left side
