Camber Adjustment...

Post by FRANKdaTANK »

Hey All,

I have a '67 F100 that I bought already lowered. But I'm not exactly sure how much it was lowered.

There is a good bit of negative camber on the front. I was wondering if there is a way to adjust the camber?? I'm getting ready to put bigger wheels and tires on the truck, and I would like to save the tires from wearing funny if I can.

The I-beams look stock, so I'm guessing the guy used lowering springs. Is there a way to tell the aftermarket lowered I-beams??
Plus the truck originally had a 6 cyl. in it, but now has a 390, so I'm thinking that might've helped push down the front some...

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Frank

to fix camber you have to bend the i-beams

Oh wow...if you guys are serious about bending the beams, then that sounds like it might be expensive. I don't think a regular alignment shop will do that, but I'll call around.

Does anybody have any pics of the I-beams to compare the stock ones to the aftermarket lowered ones??

I'm really curious and I would like to eventually lower my truck more, so this may be the way to go if its not already done on my truck.

Thanks,
Frank

Here are some pictures of the set up used to bend the Ibeams that you may find interesting.

If you call around, you may be able to find a shop that remembers how this is done, but they are getting harder to find. One thing to, if it turns out you have after market drop beams then you are pretty much stuck with the camber as the manufacturers warn against bending them and alignment shops wont touch them.

Ok, thanks for the pic "td". Do you have power disc brakes installed on your truck??
I like your truck alot...I've seen some other pics of it on here. And I love the rims too.

Thanks for the help from everybody else also.

I cut coils out of 67 F250 and ran into the same problem. Bending the i-beam is the only way to fix the camber. Fortunately I live in a small town that has a few old school shops that still do this. I believe they secure the truck and then use a hydraulic jack of some sort to bend the beam. The shop I go to charges like $40 for the whole front end alignment.
With old trucks you can do what you want. No one will ever ask you "is that a real F100" or "is that a real short box?"
