Rear spring baracket flip

Post by 84bronze »

Hello, this is my first post. I have a '71 F250 2WD Camper Special that I want to lower. I have the Dana 60 rear.

I want to cut the rivets on the front bracket on the rear spring, flip it over, and bolt it down. I know it will require drilling some new holes, but how do I know where to drill the holes? I figure as long as I keep the shackle pointed close to the same angle it should be ok? Will I need to check my pinion angle when done also?

Thanks

Welcome!

These threads may help a bit. I believe you reuse two of the existing bolt holes.

Thanks for the info and the links. :fr: I sure am glad I found this site.

That helps explain exactly what I was looking for. I have the "flex-0-matic" springs. Looks fairly easy. Shouldn't be any Oh Shxx's.

Now I need to decide how I'm going to do the front lower the best way. Not ready to spend a lot for new I-beams. I'll post some pictures as I get done.

I don't have the deep pockets. I will probably end up going with shorter springs and have the camber adjusted. I was looking at the photos in the tech section and that is quite a rig setup to adjust camber. I might try it myself if I can figure a DIY setup? For now it's a work in progress. Fun to drive however it is. Except for the gas!

Well...I got started today. I think if I go any lower it will hit the axle on the frame. The driver side exhaust is hitting rear end. Looks good though I think. Wish I could get it lower!

I flipped the front perch and then took some 2x3x1/4 thick square tubing left over from my last hot rod and extended the rear shackle 2 1/2 inches which gave me a 7 1/2 inch drop I then calculated my pinion angle and fabbed angle shims from 1/4 inch steel plate and welded and boxed them to the perch which saved me from having to cut and reweld the perch and I have the aim kit in front and cut 1 inch drop on springs to get my camber back so a total of 4 inches in front

Shims are way easier. What size rubber you running 345? Anyone else in this thread have pics? I'm getting ready to install DJM beams and perhaps cutting one coil. In the back, I'll probably go with the full hanger flip for maximum drop.

Oh, and welcome to the site 84bronze! :D
