i need power steering help
im need to this site and i have two f100 a 68 and a 70 both swb
im trying to convert my 68 into power steering but im having alot of difficulties..
theres a guy selling me a bendix box(with a small leak)from a 67 f100 for 150 is that a good price? will it fit my truck?
im also looking at a rebuilt power steering gear box im not sure if its a saginaw or bendix on ebay for around 160 with shipping but it says that its for a 69-79 ford im not sure if it will fit
what else would i need to buy other than the pump, lines and belts?
or will it be a direct fit?
my truck has a 300 inline 6 motor

The bendix boxes normally go pretty high. The saginaw is more available.

The bendix boxes tend to have leaks and can be hard to make stop leaking. The only reason to use a bendix bow is to keep your long steering column. The Saginaw box is much easier to fix and to find you will need the short steering column for the saginaw box.
My personal opinion is bendix box is a paper weight, I would not spend that much money on one esp if it leaks.

re: i need power steering help

It's best to avoid the Bendix boxes...
remember, Ford was smart enough to quit using them.
I just did a PS upgrade on my '68 and used a Saginaw box.
Is your's an auto shifter or a floor shifter (4 speed)?
If it is an auto, you'll need to use an auto PS column with both the inner and outer flanges (the inner one has a rubber boot on it).
If you have a floor shifter, you can swap out the center shaft in your original column. You'll still need both flanges.
You will need the steering box itself with the proper PS pitman arm.
They are differant than the manual ones, and there are 2 differant types of PS ones (the early style and the later style).
With your truck being a '68, you'll probably need the older style.
Ford changed pitman arms in mid '70, so you will need to know which one you need to match your truck's steering components.
Keith's tutorial explians that and shows how to identify them.
Something else you might wanna make sure you get is the brake line support bracket that mounts to the steering box. The one for manual steering is differant than the PS one.
You'll need the proper mounting brackets for your engine and the proper crankshaft and water pump pullies.
And of course you'll need to have the pump and hoses.
The directions seem alot more difficult than the swap itself.
I got everything to do mine for less than $150.
Remember, even if you go with a Bendix box, you'll need everything else I mentioned.
Good luck... it is well worth the effort...
without a doubt the best upgrade I did on my '68 CS.

You don't absolutely HAVE to swap engine perches. Some people just cut a little notch in the one they have with a torch or angle grinder.
The notch is there because without it, the PS gearbox will hit the engine perch.

Dang flyboy2610...
Thanks for mentioning that, I had totally forgotten about the engine perch being differant.
I knew I was forgetting something, but couldn't remember what...

I found a Bendix Gear and pitman arm at Hidden Valley In Arizona.
Paid 150.00 plus 50 shipping for gear and later 50.00 plus 16.00 shipping for the pitman arm. Found out late that my old pitman arm would not work.
