Help...Phoenix Area Mechanic - Kingpin Woes

Post by bando966 »

Hey all,

Anyone know of a reasonable mechanic that can do kingpins on my 72' F100 in the phoenix-ish area? i'm getting ridiculous quotes around town as this is old school stuff. any help would be appreciated.

thanks! Brandon

not trying to be a smart aleck, but after doing this myself, I'd say anybody could do it. I'd rebuild the whole front end myself and convert to discs at same time if not already and get it aligned. The tutorials on this cite are very clear and many have done this and can talk you through (they did me) when you get stuck. and use all new grade 8 hardware while you're at it. I have never been so glad I did something "right" and myself in my life, BUT you would have to count on some junkyarding first to get some parts or buying a new disc kit that fits drum spindles if they make one of those. If you start screwing with suspension, even if you hire it done, might as well do it all and you'll be alot happier in the long run, because if the kingpins are shot likely the rest is too (drag links/radius arm bushings, etc), Banjo.

Don't see why you can't DIY. The only thing I pay for is to have the bushings reamed at a local garage(old school). I think he charges $40 if you bring him the spindles ready to be reamed. Not that far from you, if you need more info, or help, let me know.
