As forementioned in my last post (Radius Arm Bushings) I have a pair of springs from an early 2000's Jeep Rubicon. They appear to be slightly thinner but about the same diameter as the original Ford springs. They are however a little longer.

I figure, I will get more compression with the thinner springs so them being a little longer I would imagine it will equal out and be about the same height. My only concern is: will these Jeep springs support the weight?

I'm going to try it out when I replace the radius arm bushings and will let you all know. (Cross your fingers for me.)

It is hard to say weathe they will or not.

You will just have to try them. Make sure that they don't bind up (compress all the way) befor you hit the bump stop.

when you give up on those springs let me know i have some good used ones from a f100 and a 77 / 78 f250

Radius arm bushings and Jeep Rubicon springs go in tomorrow. I am anxious and nervous to see how these springs will hold up.

Don't worry, I will take lots of pics and then if the end result is good, I can show off. If it doesn't work, then we can all have a good laugh. :lol: 8)

isnt the old saying "only in a Jeep" which is where those springs belong :lol: :D just joking might be a new thing

Well, here it is, the moment you've all been waiting for. Jeep Rubicon springs going into a Ford.

Yeah, right. :lol:

We started pulling the front end apart like so:

Once we dropped the shock bolt, we made short work of pulling the radius arm out to replace the bushings:

As you see below, I needed them. Badly.

Now here is a side by side comparison of the two springs. Even I didn't realize how much smaller these are than the original springs.

We had to bend the bottom of the Jeep springs in a little to fit under the dish (MAPP gas not propane.)

We got it in there!

When we dropped the passenger side this is what we found:

Needless to say, I needed to replace the springs. Well after replacing the bushings and installing the Jeep Rubicon springs, here is what the truck looks like:

:lol: :doh: If I wanted a lowrider, I got it! The springs did not hold up the weight at all. I had maybe an inch to the bump stop. Decided to put the old springs back in. We ended up cutting the other one to match the height to try and minimize tire wear. I'll be looking for a new set of springs here in the next month or so.

So yes, "Only in a Jeep." :thup:

The original coil springs are different lengths, the drivers side one is longer than the passenger side. I just installed a new set and one was tagged "Drivers side only". With equal length springs it probably will sit a little crooked.

Actually it sits more level now than it ever did. As far as I know, anyway. There is no telling how long that spring has been broken. When we measured how far to cut the d. side spring, it was pretty darn close to the same length... I don't know. It doesn't really matter, since this is only a temporary fix.

well you may have found the key to lowering springs for our trucks wonder how the camber and toe would be with some drop beams?? probly wear your tires out faster then the annoying drunk girl at the party
