Turn signal wiring routing
Putting the column back together and having trouble figuring out how to thread the harness through the upper tube flange, shift collar and down through the housing. Does the harness go outside of the housing, through the slot and then the shift collar just mashes down over it? Or, does it go inside the housing and then around that boss you can see through the slot and then down the column housing?

Yeah that's how iit goes... I just went through that myself
Getting ready to do it again too...
Becasue i had so much trouble with the harness wiring and getting things to work with the '71 switch.
I temporaily put the orginal TSS with the broken canceling cam in so I could figure out the wiring part going from the single plug to the duel plug set up on the '68 was pretty confusing ...
especially when they changed about half of the wire colors...
Now that I have it figured out installing the new TSS should be a breeze...
Not the best design for sure, it's hard to get the wires to lay flat enough for the collar to go on far enough to cover the hole where the wires go.
What I did to get the wires to lay flatter was encasing them in shrink tubeing.
The stuff i get comes in 5 foot rolls so you cut the piece to fit over most of the wires... I did shrink the tubeing becasue it is nice and flat
Then, I taped the wire ends together to make it easier to feed through the channel...

that's what i thought. i know that's how it was when i took it apart but the PO had butchered the harness, spliced it 2 or 3 times w/ butt connectors, so i wasn't sure he'd put it back together right. been following your thread about your TSS woes so I'm not looking forward to hooking it back up
Bought one from underdog97 on ebay and it's primo, just like new, original color coding and plug so i'm hoping it's plug and play. have rebuilt column from the inside out and am now ready to put it back in. It'll probably be a week or so 'cause I just had minor back surgery yesterday and can't crawl in and on the truck for a while. recuperating, kicked back in the bed, watching Deadliest Catch, with my daughter's laptop. Off work till Mon. but the wife's not. it don't get any better'n this

The part that made it confusing was that there were two wires with power...
one was blue and one was blue with a yellow stripe...
The blue and yellow one was the horn relay and the solid blue one was the main power to the switch.
That is something that was differant on the '71 switch...
Somehow I had power to the White/blue wire, but not the other wires
The other bad thing was on my part...
I assumed that the right rear light worked correctly...
I kept trying to fix it by switching wires around...
after I noticed that the rear marker light was working, but not the tail-light.
I checked the bulb and ground and found it to be a faulty ground...
After fixing that, the right rear side worked right in all the functions.
Everything fell right in place after that.

great! i love it when a plan comes together! on another note, got my column put together, even painted it. looks great! just woke up from a nice nap and it hit me! i forgot to slide the firewall seal plate on! already took the shift levers out once after i had 'em in 'cause i forgot to slide the boot on now....

Hey sargentrs...
I did the same thing, except mine is a 4-speed column so no shift levers...
Did you remove the intrument panel for any reason???
I had mine out because it was easier for me to get to the harness side connectors from the top...
If you did, let me make a suggestion...
Install the panel before you bolt up the column...
I scratched the heck outta my new paint job on the column installing the panel with the column bolted up...
It was primo... not a run or a flaw anywhere on it
(which is really unusual for me)
Because of the damp cold weather, the column was dry, but hadnt fully cured, so the paint was still soft...
Now, I am gonna have to sand and repaint it in the cab, 'cause I'm not gonna take it out again...

thanks for the tip. didn't pull the cluster. the wiring was so butchered, i just cut it off at the bottom of the column. now that i've got a new harness in the column, i want to plug it up right. is that where the plug in is, behind the cluster? i was just going to trace up the harness until i found it but if it's easier to pull the cluster...........?

For me it is alot easier to pull the panel...
Than it is to stand on my head...

I have had a back injury that left me with a 34.5% disability rating...
All that really means to me, is don't do stuff that makes it hurt...
bending down and around the seat like that, about kills me...
so I do as much as I can from the seated position.

Ouch, I can understand pulling the cluster, in your case, kaptnkaos.
I too replaced the column in my Bump without pulling the cluster too. The under-dash column harness connector is fairly easy to find from under the dash. When the cluster is out everything is easier to see.
