Have a weird bounce at low speed

Post by dablack00 »

I don't have the bounce at idle so I don't think it is the motor, but I do have it at low speed. In fact I think I have it the whole time but can't feel it above low speeds.

I lifted each wheel and spun them one at a time to see if it was a tire gone bad but they were all fine. I yanked the front tires at noon and 6 to check the king pin but everything was fine.

Any ideas? Where do I go from here?

thanks
Austin

Do you feel it in the wheel or in the seat. if you have the same size front and rear try swapping back to front and see what happens. You are describing a tire with a belt separating. You might not always see it right away , but i'll bet if you go around them real slow with the palm of your hand, you'll find a bulge you can't really see with the eye.

Ok, tomorrow I will raise each wheel again and see if I can find that. I know the tires are about 8 or 9 years old, but they only have about 40k miles on them and still look great.

thanks

i agree it will be a tire that is seperating. you might not be able to find the bulge justt yet but you will after you drive it for a while like that.

Well, I drive the truck about six miles everyday so I really rack up the miles! Ha. Well, on the days I come home for lunch, I drive 12 miles a day. I don't mind so much that is only gets 10mpg.

I will check the tires really closely tomorrow and see if I can find anything.

if you watch the tread from straight on you may see where the grove between the lugs gets a little wider in 1 spot if so the tire is separating. Once I needed calipers to see the spot wasn't an optical illusion.

Austin,
I do have it at low speed. In fact I think I have it the whole time but can't feel it above low speeds.
I've had a bent axle shafts give me this same sympton before.
Easily distinguishable by running the truck on jack stands.

Wow! I hope it isn't a bent axle! I only do light in town driving so I don't think that could happen.

thanks

Just wanted to let everyone know it was a really bad flat spot on one of my tires.

Well, so many guys post asking questions about a problem and then never get back to us with what it was. I didn't want to be one of those guys.

The only way I found the flat spot (in the center of the tread) was to take the wheel off and slowly roll it as I looked at the siloette (sp?). It was easy to see then.

thanks
