re: TRUCK SWAYS LIKE SS MINNOW
Good techs that know how to troubleshoot don't work at Walfart and the average high school kid can learn enough in the library to pass most of the ASE tests.I would suggest you find a good local shop to take a look at your truck.Along with what bluef250 and fordman have said there are other things that can cause swaying.Worn out tie rod ends, excessive play in the steering box and worn/broken rear suspension parts are a few possibilities.

re: TRUCK SWAYS LIKE SS MINNOW
I say you go to a guy with a NICE old good running truck and ask him about it, doesn't hurt to pay him either or ask where he gets his work done at and go there for a diagnosis and estimate. I've know these ASE guys and the ones that I know personally say they wont work on mine because they were not instructed in anything for older vehicles. They said that they don't want to mess it up but they will help me with translkating my chiltons books (sometimes it might as well be in chinese for me
).
Thats what I've been donig and it got my truck running from 20+ years of sitting for only $200 (300 if you include the $100 tip). he put in a new master cylendar, distributer, wires, plugs, lifters, brake lines, got my drivers side wheel to stop moving when I kick it, and its still running STRONG. that was for parts AND labor. The only thing that sucks is that he is only in town one weekend a month now so I can't get him to work on it anymore. He spends the time with his family but I still see him alot and help him with stuff too I replaced the windows in his house taught him something for a change

I was getting tires on my truck, and the old guy that owned the place came out to look at my truck!! He said if it ever started to sway back and forth, jack up the front end and hit all the greece points. Said the old trucks need that layer of greece to ride on. You might try that!!!

Did you figure out your swaying pickup or what? One thing not mentioned is if you got radial tires mixed in with the old bias kind, that could do it.

i would also check for bad or busted shocks, any little extra moven't while going down the word can cuase sway or worse. also might check the wheel bearings.
