78 tilt column question?

I picked up(stole) a tilt column out of a 78 model for $46.00 at a local pick-n-pull and is perfect other than the lower white plastic bearing holder will not pop into place,it has two notches where it clips to the end on the housing.I cant get it to push all the way in to lock,is anyone familiar with these or seen this before,or are there any pictorals of the assembly anywhere,thanks..

I have a 74 column in my 67 that does exactly the same thing. My retaining clips on the retainer are worn off. They are just little plastic latches on the edges, and over time, I guess vibration has wrn them off. That may be your problem too.
