I am trying to rebuild my Bendix PS box, but I found that I will need some directions. Appearantly there is a description in one of the original shop manuals (I found some scanned pages in one of the topics, posted by 68F250), which I am going to buy on Ebay. But can someone tell me if it is included in 1969 shop manual ? The truck is 1969, but most Bendix boxes were pre-69. I do not want to buy the expensive manual and find out the Bendix type is not included.
Thanks for the help.

re: disassembling Bendix box
I wouldn't go buying the factory shop manuals specifically hoping to find the Bendix info in there, since by then the Bendix box was 99.9% phased out of production and probably isn't included, but you should have a shop manual set regardless.
I can scan and post the '67 Bendix pages if that's all you need.

They consist of a ballnut, torsion valve and a piston. Not much in there as long as you don't disassemble the ballnut or torsion valve. Go there and you're on your own. Keep the ballnut together and there's no need for instructions.

Keith, that would be great if you could post those pages. I have been trying to find info on the net for these boxes, without any succes.
You are right, I will need the shop manual anyway, but it will take weeks before I receive them, and as you say probably the bendix box will not be included. I am also looking for a replacement top cover, but I will post that in the parts wanted section.
I am not sure what is meant with the ballnut, but I took out the sector shaft and have problems to line it up with the worm shaft and piston rack.

The ballnut is the "rack" you're referring to. Most steering boxes don't have worms, they have ballnuts and screws. The input shaft is the ballscrew and the "rack" is the ballnut. The ballnut is free to rotate on the screw without the sector in place. You probably need to position the box so gravity gives you the advantage of keeping the ballnut angled where you need it to slip the sector in.

re: disassembling Bendix box
Ok, I see what you mean, that must be the reason why the Saginaw box is slimmer than the Bendix box, the pressure works directly on the input shaft. Actually I can get the sector shaft in place, but only in the wrong position, resulting in a smaller 'range' from left to right than I need to have. Therefore I was hoping that the manual shows in what position the worm and the 'rack' need to be when installing the sector shaft.

I received the 1969 shop manuals, the Bendix box overhaul is still included, so I am OK, should have all the information I need, thanks.
