Fordman, for the brakes to work you don't have to have that proportion valve... I converted my Mustang from Drum - Drum to Disc - Drum and have never installed this... Yes, it will change your braking bias from front to back but only by a relatively small percentage... You would feel this more when stopping on a truck that is light in the rear but you will not feel the difference in the pedal just working the brakes. The brakes should still work like normal / pedal feel like normal...

fluid flow and pressure is still a constant thing (relatively speaking)

His problem is that the pedal goes to the floor but he can pump it up some but it goes away, yet he checked the master with the lines blocked and it worked fine so the master sounds like it is good. He is loosing pressure / fluid volume somewhere (more then likely air trapped in the system...)

One other thing that would do this is if the front and/or rear brakes were out of adjustment far enough that the pistons wont push out far enough on one stroke of the master cylinder to apply pressure to the disc / drum. This is more of an issue with drums then with discs…

I hope this makes sense on the proportion valve...

yea i knew all of that about the valve. and his problem. i just see that he didnt metion putting one on. and he does need it for the brakes to work properly. i guess i just stated it work. i was thinking if he didnt have one he could put on on and possibly run into the other problem while he put one on.

Calipers may be on the wrong side. If they are you'll never get all the air out. Possibly why the master checks out good and still no pedal.
Don't ask how I know
Pics are of Mustang calipers but same idea..

we now have brakes and they work good. i still have not put the proportion valve on yet, but with the mastercylinder for disc/drum and the prop valve for drum/drum it works. i will put the prop valve on when we do the rear disc. now i bet everybody wants to know what was wrong? well it was my bad. the calipers were on the wrong side the bleeder valve was up but not straight up. lets just keep this a little secret. thanks to every body who gave input at the same time i am now a forum watcher i cant stay off this sight i am sure i will have another brain fart and ask a stupid question some time see you at the f-100 nationals

That saying that a picture is worth a 1000 words is no joke. That really helps show people what's going on.

I would love to be able to go to the Nationals (even though i have an F250.)
I've driven a truck all over the country, and Knoxville is one of the prettiest places I've ever been!
