E Brake

Post by wildcard »

I need to get my E Brake working again to be able to back a boat down a ramp and not have both end up in the water. It was working fine until several weeks ago when the new shoes were installed. Now I can't even push the pedal down. Could it be I need to adjust the cable underneath the truck or is something wrong inside the brakes. The brakes work fine otherwise.

Can't push the pedal down? You mean it's so tight it won't move?
I'd crawl under there and check the tension on those rear cables. Should be able to pull a bit of slack by hand.

Yes, it's so tight I can't push the pedal down without breaking something. I'm planning on replacing EVERYTHING in there in a week or two anyway, but it would be nice to have it working now. Maybe tomorrow I'll have a chance to back off on the adjustment underneath.

wildcard,
it's so tight I can't push the pedal down without breaking something.
It sounds to me like the bracket inside the drum on one wheel side is "bound-up" or stuck on something.
Or could just be the brake job, (with the new shoes?) now facilitates adjusting the cable underneath.

Well, if it clears up I will check it out. It's supposed to rain most of the weekend.

At least I'll get to play with the new delay wiper switch.

I got it working today by adjusting the cable underneath. I still have to push kind of hard but at least it's working now. Holds real good in first but not quite as good in rev. But good enough to prevent it from rolling on its own.
