Stock sizes on wheel and tires

Post by nikon4u »

What is the stock size of tire and wheel of a 67 f100? Does anybody know what the back spacing needs to be? I need to get new tires and wheels because what I have now rubs on the frame and the wishbone arm when I make a turn.
I just got my web site up! Check it out!

I have P235-75R15 tires on American Racing wheels on my 1968 F100, BUT, I just recently bought a 108,000 original mile mildly wrecked 1969 F100 Ranger that has P215-75R15 tires on it and they are mounted on the original wheels with the little 1967 Ford part numbered hubcaps that cover the lugnut area only.

The guy I bought this from said he was given the truck after his uncle in Kentucky died and if I remember correctly he said his uncle bought it new. The guy I bought it from had an ex-girlfriend that wrecked it. The truck still has one FoMoCo script bulb in the undamaged side of the grille. This tire size could be an equivalent or closest equivalent to the original 78 series tires that these trucks would have used in the 60s, but I am not sure if the size is correct.

The LT235-75-15's are what I've always used on a half ton. I know that's what was stock for the "newer" F-150's. IIRC the stocks in the '60s would be a 7.00-15 or a 7.50-15.

My speedo is 4 to 5 m.p.h. off and I am running 235s on my 1968. I spoke with another member at the last Meet-N-Greet we had down here and he said his truck is about 5 m.p.h. off too (he has 235s on his truck too). One of the first things I noticed on this 69 F100 Ranger I just brought home recently is the 215s on it, which made me go hmm-m-m-m-m-m, maybe that's my problem.

I like those mobile Police Department Radar Stations that have the solar panels on them that the different agencies place at the side of the road around these parts. You can make multiple passes and see how your speedometer compares with the radar unit without the risk of getting a ticket.

Mine? Yup! Rarely goes over the posted speed limit, and with a speedometer that reads at 4 to 5 m.p.h. over what it's really doing I'd say a Double Yup!!

I drive my toys (ok, projects) like I want them to last another 40 or so years. When I'm committed to drive a wheelchair or walker in my 80s?? or 90s?? I will hopefully be able to pass them onto someone else to enjoy, rather than an auto boneyard.

One night in the Gray-Bar Hotel at 18, for 80+ in a 45 (oops, young and dumb) cured me of my need for speed. Poor truck. :)

Uh-huh, I did when I was 18, for a re-e-e-eal short time. Street light to street light throttle testing against others' vehicles, and all of that neat (at that age) stuff was the way I drove my first purchased car (1973 Ford Gran Torino Sport Coupe).

I got my doors blown off by a little early production Mini-Cooper back then. What a fast car that was! Green light, a blue flash from the shiny paint (with the British flag painted on the roof), and poof! it was gone!

I didn't like that night though, when they said come with us, and when they'd let me out of my man cage when they wanted to.

I have had great luck borrowing a GPS to check speed. It is also really fun to take on airplanes...

the 215 vs 235 shouldnt make you be off 5 mph. it takes a little more than just that to bump you down that far.

Well, look at the 7.50x15 and 7.00x15 size mentioned earlier here. I know 78s are taller than 75s. Unless you buy reproduction-type expennnnnsive tires to put on these you are already off with the 75s. Now how much different in height is the 215 from the 7.00 or 7.50?

Would you believe I took two tires that were labeled the same size (at a Goodyear store, I believe) and put them side by side and one was taller than the other. Go figure.

These days it's hard to find anything made well.
